The world feels limitless, beautiful, and full of adventure, but it is also a very scary, disappointing place to be, at times. We all wish we could change some things to make it a better, safer place to live, so here’s my list of the top 10 things that I wish I could rid the world of, in no particular order.
Kill Shelters: I’ve been in love with animals since I was a little girl. Seeing, hearing, and/or knowing about all of the beaten, abandoned, starving, cold, lonely, dirty, sad animals that are left out on the streets without someone who loves them or is looking for them is the most heartbreaking thing for me. Even more disturbing is knowing that kill shelters are so common. If I could get rid of every last one of them, I would. To lower the risk of an animal being killed, adopt, don’t shop. Give a second chance. Save a life.
Hatred: This does not define one specific act of hatred, but all of them — racism, homophobia, religion-based, political-based, and so many others. We are all human, and we are all the same. Stop hating what you don’t understand. The color of someone’s skin, or their sexual preference does not change the fact that they are human, have feelings, and breathe the same air that you do. Everyone is different. No one is the same. Stop hating someone else because they are not exactly like you.
The Need To Eat: Do I really have to explain this one? Think about it — how nice would it be to not have to worry about eating, counting calories, emotional eating, and so on? It could help/solve so many problems. And it’d be pretty nice, honestly.
Illness/Disease: All types of illness and disease would be gone. Cancer, AIDS, flu, mental illness, addiction; the list is never-ending. Nothing good comes from any of it, and I wish it could all just disappear.
Infidelity: This is a big one for me. As someone with a trouble past of being cheated on, it’s very traumatic. It causes so many issues, big and small, and to be honest, it’s just a pretty fucked up thing to do to someone. There is never an excuse to cheat on someone. I despise cheaters.
Spiders: I don’t care what they help with, they’re gross, scary, and I’d get rid of every last one of them.
Human Trafficking: The fact that this is still as big of an issue as it is.. disgusts me, and truly breaks my heart. I wish I could get rid of it all, as well as the ones involved.
Shopping Carts With Defective Wheels: No explanation needed.
Money: Although money is nice to have, I wish that it didn’t exist. Life would be simpler, easier, happier, and just all-around better. It causes so many problems and difficulties for way too many people, and I wish it was something we could just get rid of, once and for all.
Death: One of the biggest ones for me would have to be death. As someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, I’m greatly empathetic. Even if I don’t know the person who has passed, I imagine they have parents, children, siblings, etc. who love them very much, and wanted more time with them. If I do know them, and especially if I was incredibly close to them, it’s crippling and devastating for me. There’s the guilt of not having done more, or spent more time with them. There’s the sadness of realizing you will never see them again, hear their voice, or feel their touch. There’s the anger that they’re gone, and you’re forced to continue living as if nothing happened. It’s just something I wish never had to happen, and if I could rid the world of death, and prevent families from losing their loved ones, it’s definitely one at the top of my list.
There you have it, my top 10 things that I wish I could rid the world of. Maybe you agree on some of them, and maybe you don’t. We all wish there was at least something we could take away from this world, but if only, right? What would be your #1 thing to rid the world of, if you could?
Day 10 coming soon.
